It was quite a while ago that we first raised our glasses to the meeting of Bavarian tradition and Cape Town creativity when GSDH was put in charge of the entire online presence of the Bavarian Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan.

We have now completed the most important part of our task: the new website is online! While staying true to Weihenstephan’s long-established visual identity, we have brought a fresh look and new approach to the brand’s presence on the web.

This collaboration has resulted in a site through which the user can fully explore the world of Weihenstephan, find out about the history of the world’s oldest brewery and discover how the beer is brewed, and engage with fun interactive extras.

The Weihenstephan Beer Game, for example, is already getting a lot of positive reactions. In this game, the user can practice pouring the perfect glass of Weihenstephan Hefeweißbier. They can then post the result directly from the site on their Facebook Wall via Facebook Connect or they can send it to a friend.

GAMER, the latest science fiction masterpiece by Universum Film, will be in German cinemas in January. The opening of the movie will be supported by the official movie site – conceived and designed by GSDH. This amazing flash website will help to build anticipation for this upcoming action spectacle.

Just like the movie, the website encompasses three different worlds. Game - the malicious shooter game entitled “Slayer”, where real prisoners are used by gamers as avatars to fight each other to death. The second world Society – also uses mind-control technology. This world is a shrill, decadent and unscrupulous virtual society. The third world is Reality – the real world, in which millions of people follow the controversial games.

Leading actor Gerard Butler as Kable and his wife Angie, played by Amber Valletta, are both captured in the games and are struggling to escape from them.

The user can navigate between those three worlds and experience different exciting flash designs while he browses through the gallery, has a look behind the scenes or discovers all the special goodies. Next to the homepage we will also be responsible for inGame advertising and banner campaigns.

Apple has just launched a unique iPhone application, the Bavarian iFlirt Cam. The application has been released just in time for the Octoberfest and combines Bavarian tradition with the latest technology.

From September 19th, every owner of an iPhone can send Bavarian greetings to their friends and family. The application allows you to choose from a wide range of Bavarian style frames with typical Bavarian sayings and combine them with one of your photos. One can adjust the size and position of the image to fit the frame perfectly, and then sent via E-Mail and saved to your iPhone.

The Bavarian iFlirt Cam will make it easier to flirt or put a smile on other peoples faces at Oktoberfest. With a bit of luck, you may even win the E-Mail address of your new contact.

Great news for the Flash community: Google added an upgrade to its indexing capabilities which improves the search quality of Flash tremendously. Previously external content loaded in by a SWF file has not been identified by Google. With this latest upgrade all this content also appears in Google search results.

We are very happy to see Google making such important changes to their excellent search engine. With the improvements of Flash indexing, GSDH expects Google to continue its service competencies making the web even more eventful, dynamic and exciting.

I found an interesting project about an VoIP application written in Flash. Everyone can talk over this application absolutely cost-free. Only requirements are an installed FlashPlayer >v9 and Headphones. Allow the SWF to use the Headphones and the WebCam, send your phone-partner the link and start talking.

We tested it by phoning from Cape Town/South Africa to Munic/Germany. Well, it worked but it was still buggy. The sound quality is not too good and after a time we were disconnected for some reason. There is a possibility to do a video-chat, but i couldn try it (i dont hava a webcam here).

Take a look at the page and have a try of your own, its very interesting doing that with flash, and i think these guys will improve the app.

Found this great little example on manipulating sound data with Flash 9. This makes it a whole lot easier for Flashdevelopers to manipulate sound in Flash. I see some very interesting projects being created with this in future.

TweenFilterLite (AS3 Version) - Easily Tween Filters & Image Effects

I found a new Tweenig Class called “TweenFilterLite” as i searched for a way to animate TextField.
Till now i used the Tweener Class which can be found at the GoogleCode page. But this class can only animate Sprites, if you want to animate a TextField, the app crashes at runtime.

The concept of TweenFilterLite is different. With this class you can animate any kind of displayable objects. And so the main advantage (in my opinion) is that you can animate every child of DisplayObject without nesting it in a Sprite or a MovieClip etc.

A another advantage is that you can place several animation types (blur, fade, glow etc) in a queue and the class runs it one after the other. That means that you dont have to write onComplete functions for every animation (reduces code size and improves readability).

We like nice stuff and because of that we have implemented sifR headers for our new blog. sifR (Scalable Inman Flash Replacement) is an open source JavaScript and Adobe Flash based technology initially developed by Shaun Inman and improved by Mike Davidson and Mark Wubben that enables the replacement of text elements on HTML web pages with Flash equivalents.

Huh? Basically it allows you to replace ugly HTML, system font headings with any font you like (without having to use images) while still enabling google and other search engines to crawl your headings…

We are still waiting for the good people at Adobe to come up with a general solution for the Flash / search engine issue but until that happens sifR is a great tool for these little things…
